At Boggs Automotive, we follow manufacturer recommendations when determining the right oil for your vehicle. While it may seem like there’s a choice, using the wrong oil, especially a lower-grade option, could void your warranty.

It’s also important to note that conventional oil is a thing of the past. Today, vehicles require either a synthetic blend or full synthetic oil. Most newer models specifically require full synthetic to ensure optimal performance and engine longevity.

Trust our team to use the best oil for your vehicle, keeping it running smoothly and protecting your investment.

What Is Synthetic Motor Oil?

Unlike conventional motor oil, which is refined from crude oil, synthetic motor oil is chemically engineered to provide superior lubrication and performance. It is designed to withstand extreme temperatures, reduce engine wear, and last longer between oil changes.

Benefits of Synthetic Motor Oil

Better Engine Protection – Synthetic oils maintain their viscosity and lubrication properties longer, reducing wear on engine components.
Improved Performance in Extreme Temperatures – Whether it’s freezing cold or scorching hot, synthetic oil flows better and remains stable.
Cleaner Engine – Synthetic oils are more resistant to sludge and deposits, keeping your engine cleaner over time.

The Cost Factor: Why Are Synthetic Oil Changes More Expensive?

While synthetic oil offers great benefits, one of the biggest concerns for drivers is the cost. A synthetic oil change is typically more expensive than a conventional one. Here’s why:

  • Higher Production Costs – Synthetic oil is engineered for performance, making it more costly to produce than conventional oil.
  • Superior Additives – The added detergents and stabilizers in synthetic oil enhance engine protection but also contribute to the price.

Boggs Recommends Oil Changes Every 3,000 Miles

We strongly recommend changing your oil every 3,000 miles, primarily because of the life of the oil filter. While many vehicles come equipped with an oil life gauge, it’s essentially just a mileage timer. It doesn’t measure how much the oil’s chemical properties have broken down over time, which is crucial for engine health!

Another key reason for more frequent oil changes is oil burn-off. Every vehicle experiences some degree of oil consumption, meaning there’s less oil protecting your engine as time goes on.

Some vehicles, particularly certain Chrysler and Jeep models, have known issues with excessive oil consumption due to engine design flaws. These problems have even led to class-action lawsuits.

We understand that vehicle manufacturers often set oil change reminders at 7,500 miles, which can create some confusion. However, we’ve seen far too many engines suffer damage due to infrequent oil changes.

Our goal is to educate you and help you protect your vehicle for the long haul because routine maintenance now can prevent costly repairs down the road.
