Whether you drive a new or used car, everyone wants to extend the life of their car! Cars are a sizeable investment and protecting it with regular maintenance and care is a vital part of extending their life on the road.

1. Wash Your Car

It’s not just about making your car look shiny and new. Washing your car regularly removes dirt and grime that can damage your paint when left unchecked. Once your paint starts to deteriorate, your car’s body is at risk for rust and corrosion. This is especially true in the winter as salt on the roads can speed up rusting on the underbody of your car and exterior paint.

If you park your car outside regularly, you may need to wash it more frequently than if you have it sheltered in a garage. Most cars are fine with a once-a-month wash!

2. Have It Regularly Serviced

Just like you need to get in to see your doctor for an annual checkup, your car needs to see a mechanic regularly. Stick to those recommended service appointments and avoid neglecting your car and causing bigger problems to fix.

Not sure about your car’s recommended maintenance schedule? Ask one of our expert mechanics for their recommendation next time you’re here!

3. Don’t Ignore Warning Lights

If your car doesn’t seem to have anything “wrong” with it, but a warning light is illuminated on your dash, it can be easy to ignore it. However, leaving potential problems unchecked can cause even larger issues for your vehicle.

Check your owner’s manual to see what the light could mean and bring it in for service if it’s not something you can easily remedy yourself.

4. Keep An Eye On Your Tires

We don’t just mean replacing your tires before they’re worn too thin, you need to monitor and maintain the best tire pressure for your vehicle.

Making sure tires are inflated properly not only extends the life of your tires, it improves gas mileage and can help you avoid blowouts. When it’s time for a repair we can patch your tires for you at Boggs or replace them with new tires and get you back on the road fast!

5. Regularly Replace Filters

Your vehicle has several types of filters in place to keep it running smoothly. Both cabin and engine air filters last for 30,000 miles and our mechanics inspect them every time you get your oil changed to determine if they need to be replaced.

6. Don’t Put Off Oil Changes

Oil may be the most important fluid in your car. It pumps through your entire engine and is responsible for keeping it cooled and lubricated. Waiting too long to get your car’s oil changed can cause catastrophic damage to the engine!

At Boggs we make it easy to get the oil changed in your car or truck, we’ll even come pick your car up for you with our Boggs Driver service!

7. Check & Maintain Fluid Levels

It’s vital to regularly check the fluid levels in your car. If you’re bringing your car into Boggs Automotive for regular maintenance, checking and topping off these fluids as needed is included in your service. We recommend an oil change every 3,000 miles due to the life of your oil filter.

Curious about what an oil change covers? Check out our oil change checklist below. An oil change is about so much more than “just” changing the oil in your vehicle.

8. Avoid Potholes When You Can

We know that avoiding potholes in this area is next to impossible! Potholes and train tracks can wreak havoc on your car’s suspension, tires, and exhaust system. Drive as carefully as you can and slow down when driving over uneven train tracks to avoid damage.
